Banana Moon...

It's one of those times in our lives that I hope I will remember forever.

Megan, Jonah, Joshua and I traveled to Meadow, to see the Meadow Lights. I had heard about them since moving here, but now that I have a family, it was time to see it in person! (I took two pictures, but they came out poorly, so I am sorry that I cannot aid your imagination.)

On the way, a sliver of moon could be seen in the night sky. Since introducing the moon to Jonah when he was younger, it has become a fixture of our evening rides, so much so that he often wonders where it is, and when we change direction, where did it go?

On this particular night, Jonah looked at the moon from his window, and said, "It's a banana moon!"

Megan and I hope we never forget that night.

Fourth, Fifth, Sixth Nights A Bust...

For me, anyway.

Last night, we went to see Rachael Ray signing her new 30-Minute Meal cookbook at a local bookstore. We waited, and waited, and waited. She was late, late, late. We were hoping to sneak in with some of my media friends and get her to sign our copy, but since she was late, we were shut out.

So what goeth on with the fifth and sixth nights? Megan will have to handle the Hanukkah duties by herself. I will call in and help her and Jonah say the blessing, just before we light the candles, and just before they open presents! Hopefully, if the Boys cooperate, Megan can take pics, and I will post them here.

I miss my family. Sigh.

Oh to win the lottery...

Third Night!

I kind of like what we are doing for Jonah and Joshua for Hanukkah. It reminds me a lot of what our family did when we were younger. We sit down for a nice meal, (tonight was meatball sub night, yum!) I yell at Jonah to stay in his seat, (42 dozen times) we watch Joshua make a complete mess of himself as he feeds the dog, and maybe, just maybe in between all of that, we can actually eat. But I am not complaining. We are lucky to have these two wonderful, super-cute boys to share this holiday with us.

On this third night, I had Jonah help me light the candles. (You should hear him say the blessing over the candles. He does it so well!) I promised Josh that in a few years, he could help. He just drooled.

Tonight, Jonah got a microphone...

And Joshua got a pull telephone from his Grandpa and Grandma. (My dad and step mom!) Thanks guys! Josh loves it! (Even though in this world of micro technology and cell phones, he has never seen anything like it!)

First Full Day Of Hanukkah, Second Night!

Sounds a little like charades, huh?

Anyway, the celebration of the holiday of Hanukkah continues.

Day Two featured baby back beef ribs for dinner (yum!) and presents for dessert! (No, we didn't eat the presents, but lacking dessert, presents will always suffice!) (Though dessert would have been nice too.)

Tonight was Puzzle Night for the Boys. Jonah got a puzzle based on one of his favorite books, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and Joshua got a puzzle of farm animals!

Somewhere behind this present is a Boy waiting to open said present!

What presents will the Boys get tomorrow? Tune in and find out, same Hanukkah website, same Hanukkah time! Until then, Good People!

Happy Hanukkah!

Celebration Of Lights...

Happy Hanukkah!

Tonight we celebrated the first night of Hanukkah. For Joshua, it was his second, and for Jonah, it was his third. For Megan, it was her fifth with me, and it was my 37th. I win! Just kidding. But it doesn't matter how many times we celebrate. What matters to me is how you celebrate.

Talk to any Jewish adult, and they will tell you that in comparison to the other Jewish holidays, Hanukkah is a minor one. (Talk to any Jewish kid, and they will disagree with you completely.) Sadly, this time of year has become so commercialized, that we have really lost sight of what Hanukkah and Christmas really mean. On the upside, we have become accustom to giving gifts, and I'm no dummy; I'm going to accept them!

Hanukkah is, for me, more than candles, presents and latkes. It is about family. Our family has special traditions when it comes to the Holidays, and Hanukkah is no different. I have a pretty large family, three sisters and a brother. Each of us had our own Menorah, and I took pride in my Menorah. They were displayed in our home throughout the year, and I would look forward to this time of year, when we would get them ready for Hanukkah. I miss my sisters and my brother each and every day, but even more so during Hanukkah. I think that's because I remember us being truly happy then, like I feel right now, after watching Jonah and Joshua tear open gifts!

And what did the Boys get on the first night? Books from Aunt Ginny and Uncle Jerry! Thank you!

Since as far back as I can remember, my dad, seen here in this recent picture...

...has sent me a dreidel dreidel for Hanukkah. It wasn't hard to find, but after a bit of digging around in our junk drawer, Megan found one! Jonah did very spinning it, but all Josh wanted to do was eat it...

But they had fun, on what promises to be a fun, and memorable Hanukkah 2007.

After we lit the candles, we took baths, and read the books to them at bedtime! Joshua was his usual wiggly self, but Jonah enjoyed both of them! Thanks again, Ginny and Jerry!

Again, Happy Hanukkah everyone!
