Celebration Of Lights...

Happy Hanukkah!

Tonight we celebrated the first night of Hanukkah. For Joshua, it was his second, and for Jonah, it was his third. For Megan, it was her fifth with me, and it was my 37th. I win! Just kidding. But it doesn't matter how many times we celebrate. What matters to me is how you celebrate.

Talk to any Jewish adult, and they will tell you that in comparison to the other Jewish holidays, Hanukkah is a minor one. (Talk to any Jewish kid, and they will disagree with you completely.) Sadly, this time of year has become so commercialized, that we have really lost sight of what Hanukkah and Christmas really mean. On the upside, we have become accustom to giving gifts, and I'm no dummy; I'm going to accept them!

Hanukkah is, for me, more than candles, presents and latkes. It is about family. Our family has special traditions when it comes to the Holidays, and Hanukkah is no different. I have a pretty large family, three sisters and a brother. Each of us had our own Menorah, and I took pride in my Menorah. They were displayed in our home throughout the year, and I would look forward to this time of year, when we would get them ready for Hanukkah. I miss my sisters and my brother each and every day, but even more so during Hanukkah. I think that's because I remember us being truly happy then, like I feel right now, after watching Jonah and Joshua tear open gifts!

And what did the Boys get on the first night? Books from Aunt Ginny and Uncle Jerry! Thank you!

Since as far back as I can remember, my dad, seen here in this recent picture...

...has sent me a dreidel dreidel for Hanukkah. It wasn't hard to find, but after a bit of digging around in our junk drawer, Megan found one! Jonah did very spinning it, but all Josh wanted to do was eat it...

But they had fun, on what promises to be a fun, and memorable Hanukkah 2007.

After we lit the candles, we took baths, and read the books to them at bedtime! Joshua was his usual wiggly self, but Jonah enjoyed both of them! Thanks again, Ginny and Jerry!

Again, Happy Hanukkah everyone!
